We know him by his stage name, Mandela D or Mandela Dunamis. His real name is Prince Mandela Duruji. Born in Dallas July23, 1990. The second of four children by his parents, Mandela dared to be great. He was named after Nelson Mandela and was expected to live up to that name. Up until he was thirteen, his family kept moving back and forth between the United States and Nigeria. Usually when his family went back and forth between Nigeria and America, he stayed in Dallas. Mandela grew up with a cross-cultural look at life due to his experiences in Nigeria and the United States. He had always been a churchgoer since he could remember. In his pre-teens he remembers giving his life to Christ in Nigeria and being an active doer of the Word of God in Nigeria, living the life of the spirit and evangelizing during recess with his friends from Scripture Union in Government College Imo State. He remembers the joy he felt when he inspired and converted people with the word of God. However it all changed when he came to America again at the beginning of his teen years, this time his family came to Houston. He quickly started losing his spiritual roots. He attended Hastings High School as a freshman. His attention deviated from the things of God to the things of the world. It didnt take long before he was conformed to what he saw; the lifestyle choices, peer pressure, Hip-hop culture, fashion, popularity, and the like. The culture changed him. His mother moved the family to Katy before he started his junior year. It was a lot safer and a lot less pressure from his peers. He and his older brother attended Cinco Ranch High School in Katy. By this time, they had already conformed to this lifestyle. His mother was very strict and not very appreciative of their conforming lifestyles; the earrings, the sagging pants, the clubbing, the girls, the late night partying, drinking, etc. He noted in the midst of all these things, he still went to church as a means of justification. "I would think okay, maybe Im doing all these things but hey, Im a Christian. Im trying to change, I go to church." By the time Mandela D graduated from High School things had started going out of control. His friends weren't exactly role models. It didnt take long before they all got in serious trouble with the law... Mandela D seriously got into the rap game. Inspired by artists such as Tupac, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Michael Jackson, Mandela D wanted to take the music industry by storm. He took on the stage name Prosspect and the motto Live for now like theres no tomorrow. The topics of his songs revolved around metaphors, materialism, girls, sex, and lessons in love and life. He started performing at weekly open-mic nights at a certain gentlemens club. He became affiliated with other individual artists and artist groups. He gained momentum and started performing at birthday parties, bars, clubs etc. I wanted to be like a combination of Michael Jackson and Tupac. Have as much momentum and entertain like Michael Jackson yet be as real and deep like Tupac.He went on to releasing his first album, The Sound of Music early in 2009. From that point on, things went very down, very fast. His academics, his relationships, his finances, all took a downward turn because he put too much time into his music. He got into debt because he invested too much into his music and the revenue he expected wasnt coming in. To make matters worse, He along with some friends were arrested for certain fraudulent activities. From the looks of it, the verdict would end up in some type of hard time or years of probation. Mandela collected his thoughts and decided to just live a little more before he heard the final verdict. During those few months when the court date was reset monthly, Mandela was all about the night life. He realized soon enough how stupid that plan was. He started seriously regretting his actions, it even reflected in his music as his style changed from girls and metaphors to finding a purpose in life etc. I started going to church again; I had never stopped per say its just every time I went I was late. I was actually known for being late to church. I didnt pay attention, I just wanted to be like, hey at least I came to church and thats when it happened. One night, I attended a One Way (Up) Conference and another individual, young dude, he was my age. This guy was supposedly a gospel rapper. I never even knew that existed up until that point. When he ministered he really spoke to me, spoke to my spirit about the love of God and how he wants to change us and better us and bring us into this fellowship with him, how we keep sinning and keeping him (God) away and how we all need Jesus. The Holy Spirit used him to convict me. That night, I completely gave myself to Christ and things changed from there. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation Things started working out for my good."
Mandela D transformed into an even more zealous Christian than he was in his preteens. After seeing just how influential music was to indivuiduals he started going back into the studio. He wanted to flood the world with the word, flood the music industry with the Kingdom ministry. Five months after he received Christ, he released his debut gospel album The Period of Grace that sold hundreds... a lot more than his secular album did six months prior to that. His goal was to get the good news out there and raise awareness Christ Awareness. Since that time, he has been volunteering with various charities and non-profit organizations that are Christ-based. He didn't stop there. He founded The Stepping Saints, a youth ministry that specializes in ministrations through dance, drama, music, plays, etc. Six months later, he released his 2010 album, The Perfection of Beauty, which sold even more than the previous album. He is now an active member of his church, Christ Embassy Houston. He leads a fellowship at his college, the university of Houston. He recently finished his third album august 2011 and is currently working on tours. Great things are expected.

"Dearly Beloved, This is truly the year of the word of God. Great things are spoken of us this year. I am working with the Holy Spirit to make this year the greatest year so far in my music ministry; professional music videos, new songs, new albums, etc. all to the glory of God.
